In India, children as young as 5 years old spend their days making bricks instead of going to school. Did you know that Impact Nations has changed the future of nearly 2200 of these child slaves since 2019? Thanks to people like you, kids are now receiving an education that will open up a world of possibilities for them. There are currently 700 children who are still waiting to be enrolled in school, with more being added to the list every day.
Not every parent is ready to see their kid leave the factory every day.
Lakshmi, the widow of an alcoholic, desperately needed food and shelter. When her husband drunkenly killed himself several years ago, the community stigmatized poor Lakshmi. "She must be cursed. This must be why her husband died. Don’t employ her or you too will come under her curse."
The only work she could find was slavery in a factory. But provision was all she found. Barely. The entire community continued to shun her and her young son. They were alone.
When our team offered to bring Lakshmi’s son to school, she couldn’t let him go. “He is all I have left. If he were to disappear, I would be truly alone.” Lakshmi’s village before the factory had been a target for child abduction.
After a very long conversation sharing her story and pain, Lakshmi met Jesus. She found that she is not alone, cursed, or abandoned. Now her son attends school every day and when we visit, she alwaya greets us with an enthusiastic “Praise the Lord!”
